1. Introduction: The Principle of Observation and Provision

Oxossi is the Orisha of hunting, forests, abundance, and keen knowledge. He represents observation, patience, strategy, and precision. Oxossi is not only the provider of food, but also the seeker of knowledge, the "hunter" for wisdom. He is the intelligence that delves into the forest (the unknown) to bring sustenance and understanding to the community.

2. Fundamental Myths (Itan)

One of its central myths tells how the city of Ketu was terrorized by an evil bird (an Eiye) sent by witches (Iyami). All the city's best hunters tried to shoot it and failed. Oxóssi, with a single arrow, accurately shot and killed the bird, saving the city. For this reason, he became the King of Ketu. This myth demonstrates his precision, his ability to solve problems that others cannot, and his connection to spiritual power.

3. Domains and Symbols

Their domain is dense woodlands, forests, and places of knowledge. Their sacred symbols are the Ofá (the bow and arrow, representing precision and focus) and the Eruexim (a fly swatter made from an animal's tail, symbolizing their royal status and its power to ward off evil influences). Their colors are forest green and turquoise blue.

4. Archetype and Personality

The children of Oxóssi are observant, curious, agile, and possess a great thirst for knowledge. They are strategists, preferring to act alone, and are very selective in their friendships. They enjoy freedom and open spaces, but feel trapped in very restricted environments. They are intuitive, artistic, and, although they may appear solitary, they are deeply connected to their community (family and close friends).

5. Syncretism and Qualities (Paths)

In Brazil, he was syncretized with Saint Sebastian, a martyr who, like Oxóssi, was targeted by arrows. His qualities reflect his specialties: Oxóssi Inlé (linked to the deepest forests and healing through leaves, often associated with Ossaim), Oxóssi Odé (the young and vibrant hunter), and Oxóssi Erinlé (linked to rivers and fishing, a form of aquatic hunting).
