Hevioso is the Vodun of thunder, lightning, and justice in the Jeje pantheon. He is the manifestation of the power of Mawu (God) on Earth, the king who rules with authority and imposes order through his law. His justice is swift and relentless like lightning, punishing liars, thieves, and sorcerers. Hevioso represents the power of the state, royal authority, and cosmic order.
2. Fundamental Myths
A myth tells of Hevioso living in the sky with his father Mawu. When disorder and injustice spread across the Earth, Mawu sent him to restore order. Hevioso descended with his double-bladed axe, and his voice became the thunder that made the unjust tremble. Those struck by lightning were considered judged and condemned by it.
3. Domains and Symbols
His domain is high places, quarries, and palaces of justice. His symbols are the double axe (Hevioso-so) and the lightning stone, believed to be the embodiment of his power. His colors are red and white, symbolizing the fire and purity of his justice.

Hevioso's children are people with a strong sense of justice, authoritarian, proud, and charismatic. They are natural leaders, vain, and appreciate respect. They have a fiery temper, but also a big heart. They are extremely correct and do not tolerate lies, defending the truth at any cost.

Hevioso dialogues with Ṣàngó (Yorùbá) and Nzazi (Bantu). All are kings of thunder and justice. The cult of Hevioso is central to the Jeje Mahi nation, and his figure is linked to the royal lineage of ancient Dahomey. He is the father of other important Voduns, such as Age and Avrekete.
