Main Orisha
Introduction
Èjìlà Seborà (or simply Èjìlà), the fall of twelve cowries, is the manifestation of Xango's royal power and justice. It is an Odù of great strength, which speaks of victory over enemies, overcoming demands, and the triumph of truth. It represents authority, leadership, and the certainty of divine justice.
Symbolism of Odu
Twelve is a number of power and rulership. Èjìlà symbolizes Xango's lightning bolt that strikes the unjust, the king's crown, the power of the law, and the scales of justice. It is the force that punishes the guilty and exalts the innocent.
General Interpretation (According to Bascom)
Bascom interprets Èjìlà as one of the most favorable Odus, guaranteeing victory in disputes, especially those of a legal nature. If the querent is right and acts justly, this Odu ensures that they will emerge victorious from any conflict. However, the reverse is also true: if the querent is wrong, the heavy hand of Xango's justice will fall upon them. Therefore, it is an Odu that demands rectitude of character.
Positive Aspects (Ire)
- Certain victory in legal disputes or any type of lawsuit.
- Recognition, honor and ascension to positions of power.
- Protection from enemies and slander.
- Achievement of great wealth and stability.
Negative Aspects (Ibi)
- Problems with the law and justice, if the consultant is acting in bad faith.
- Loss of power and status due to arrogance or injustice.
- Powerful enemies conspiring against the consultant.
- Xango's fury, which can manifest as accidents with fire or lightning.
Ritual Prescriptions (Ebó)
The rituals for Ejìlà aim to honor Xango and ask for his protection and justice. The main offering is Amalá (a porridge made of yam flour and okra), served in a bowl. The sacrifice of a ram (for very serious cases) or red roosters is also common. Offerings are often left in quarries or on top of hills.
Spiritual Reflection
Èjìlà Seborà teaches us that justice, both divine and earthly, is a fundamental pillar of the universe. It reminds us that our actions have consequences and that truth always prevails. It is an invitation to act with honor, righteousness, and courage, trusting that if we are on the right side, we will have the strength of a king at our side. The lesson is clear: be just, and victory will be yours.
