1. Introduction: The Principle of Law and Order
Nzazi, also known as Loango, is the Nkisi of justice, fire, and thunder. He represents royal power, authority, and the law that governs the community. Like lightning, his justice is swift, relentless, and accurate, striking down those who break the rules and lie. He is the embodiment of the power that balances the world through order.
2. Fundamental Myths (Minkandá)
A Minkandá tells of Nzazi, a human king so powerful and just that, after his death, Nzambi (God) transformed him into a force of nature. His voice became thunder, and his weapon, lightning. He was charged with maintaining order on Earth, adjudicating disputes and punishing wrongdoers with his sacred fire.
3. Domains and Symbols
His domain is the quarries, the courts, and high places. His symbols are the double axe (Nzaji), representing justice that cuts both ways, and the lightning stone, the embodiment of his power. His colors are red and white, symbolizing the passion of war and the purity of justice.
4. Archetype and Personality
Nzazi's children are charismatic, proud, and intolerant of lies. They are natural leaders and enjoy exercising authority. They have a strong temperament and can be very stubborn and passionate. They defend their friends and family tooth and nail, but are harsh in their judgments.
5. Relationships and Dialogues
Nzazi dialogues with the Orisha Shango. Both are kings, vigilantes, and lords of thunder. The cult of Nzazi, however, is linked to royalty and the power structures of the Bantu kingdoms, with its own titles and greetings, such as "Loango," which refers to an important kingdom in the Congo.
